The fastest broadband in the UK is now live.
The new broadband service - promising synchronous speeds of 2.2Gbps - is being offered by Vodafone, and runs exclusively on CityFibre’s network.
CityFibre is the UK’s biggest fibre altnet provider, and its expanding network is part of the government’s Project Gigabit, which aims to bring next-generation connectivity to underserved areas. One such area is the village of Grantchester in Cambridgeshire where, according to a report by Mobile Europe, one Vodafone customer has become the first person to take advantage of the new speeds on offer.
Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at Vodafone UK, had this to say about their new service, and the government program that helped to enable it:
“Project Gigabit is a game-changer for rural communities, who can now enjoy the same full fibre benefits of gigabit speeds and improved reliability as those living in cities. Whether it’s for work, education, entertainment or socialising, our customers can do more of what they love online, with no limits.”
This is no doubt great news for those living in underserved communities throughout the UK, and looks to be just the beginning. CityFibre is currently hard at work rolling out its full fibre networks, which are capable of whopping 10Gbps speeds, to almost 450,000 homes across the country, through Project Gigabit.
